Although women constitute one-third of the permanent labour force on farms in 2000, less than half enjoy the status of farmer. However, the increase in the number of farming civil companies has brought more professional female farmers and has helped rejuvenate the farm population. Farmers’ spouses work the earth less often, but those who do remain devote more time to it. The number of permanent employees increased between 1988 and 2000, but full-time jobs decreased.
