In 2000, in the overseas départements, as in metropolitan France, each farm occupied a full-time equivalent of 1.3 people.
In 2000, in the overseas départements, as in metropolitan France, each farm occupied a full-time equivalent of 1.3 people. Non-family employees, increasing since 1989, do one-third of the work. The majority work on farms specialised in growing bananas. However, the essential part of the total work done on farms remains that of family members, especially the holders, whose proportion increases. But in 2000 they work full-time less often, especially in Guadeloupe, because of the significant reduction in banana and sugar cane acreage.
