During the winter of 1996-1997, 45 % of farmers gathered wood.
During the winter of 1996-1997, 45 % of farmers gathered wood. Their harvest amounts to 7 million steres. That wood, mainly firewood, is used for the heating needs of the farmer and his family.
The wooded surfaces that are available to the farmer provide the main part of the harvest. However, the contribution of wood that is found on the farm itself especially as hedges, is essential in Normandy, Brittany and Pays de la Loire.
