Over the last twenty years, the use of mineral fertilisers has marked a noticeable pause.
Over the last twenty years, the use of mineral fertilisers has marked a noticeable pause. Well before the reform of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) in 1993, doses had stopped increasing, as a result of better mastery of the doses per hectare added to most general cropping. The creation of fallow land within the framework of the developing CAP, at the beginning of the 1980’s, also later contributed to the decrease in overall fertiliser use. In recent years however, the reduction in doses per hectare has stopped, and less land has lain fallow, thus eroding a large part of the diminution of fertiliser use.
