Grain and cattle (dairy and beef) production, which are strongly supported within the framework of a common market organisation, remain widely dispersed over the entire European territory. In contrast, unsupported farm products (swine, poultry, fruits, vegetables, wine ...) are produced in much more concentrated locations. Already dense at the beginning of the 1980’s, the geographical concentration of swine and poultry production intensified between 1983 and 1995. Some very competitive production areas, located in northern Europe, account for the main part of this production at community level. There is no trend to the concentration of CAP subsidized productions. They remain evenly distributed among the different European agricultural areas. Their location changes however. As far as beef is concerned, the West of France is the first production area in 1995, ahead of Ireland. It was Italy in 1983.
