More than 40 % of meat-type pigs and more than 60 % of breeder sows are fed with biphase feed on French farms.
More than 40 % of meat-type pigs and more than 60 % of breeder sows are fed with biphase feed on French farms. This technique improves nutrition and is better adjusted to the real needs of the animal, by distinguishing two phases, and thus two successive feeds, in the breeding process : « growth » followed by « finishing » for pigs being fattened, and « gestation » then « suckler » for sows. Adopted first by large farms, biphase feeding offers a double advantage : it economises proteins and reduces nitrogen wastes. It is especially widespread in Brittany.
