Between 1995 and 1997, 4,000 additional jobs for permanent agricultural workers
Agreste cahiers n° 37 - mars 1999
In 1997, 140,700 agricultural wage-earners are employed on farms.
In 1997, 140,700 agricultural wage-earners are employed on farms. Their total, stabilised in 1995 after years of strong decline, has been progressing between 1995 and 1997. This increase is a consequence of two opposite trends : 29,000 job creations and 25,000 suppressed jobs. However, nearly 2/3 of the newly created jobs are part time. Farms which create employment have a large economic dimension and are often managed as corporations (and not by individual farmers). Flower growers and granivore breeders are the largest job makers.
