Over the three year period leading up to the year 2000, 13,600 farmers or first time farm partners (on average 4,500 per year) came back to a company-type structure. Most of them used the EARL or GAEC type. The new farms are bigger, with the farmers working full time and often employing a workforce from outside the family. Their agricultural training is better and, age for age, they live more often in couples.
